Spectrum of Identity: A Chanel Brand Project

The goal of this project was to learn and adopt the design language of an existing brand, in this case Chanel, and then create a product that would be different yet relevant to their customer base.

The first step I took was to study Chanel’s rich history to understand their specific place in the market of high-end fashion and luxury goods.

Studying a design language: Initial understanding

Adopting a design language: Marker Renders

The goal was simplicity and to capture the classic Chanel suits and Chanel N°5 art deco bottle. One is a reference to Mondrian and another to Escher.

Adopting a design language: Abstract CAD Sculpture

The next step was creating an abstract CAD sculpture based on their imagery and style. I incorporated the design motifs that Chanel is most known for: the lion, the number 5, and the camellia flower.

Understanding a design language: Identifying a need

After noticing the push and pull of traditionally feminine and traditionally masculine within the Chanel brand, I thought a line of modular jewelry pieces that allowed for a range of gender and personal expression would be interesting.
